I enclose, for your information, a Copy of Gavingtem No. 858 dated 25th July, 1951, from the Governor Hong Kong, which we have received through the Colonial Office, regarding charges still outstanding in war uffice books in respect of loans made by the British Military Administration in Hong Kong.

The andunts outstanding in war Office books in respect of the accounts referred to in the Cavingram are as follows:

(1) Advances to Staff in 1945 (2) Advances to Bailey & Co. Ltd. (3) Advances to C.. R.R.A.

As we have ile Governor's assurance that there is no hope of making any recoveries in respect of trese items, we ave no option but to seek authority to write off the total arount stated.
